The purpose of the NWRA Safety Stand Down is to raise awareness of and prevent fatalities and injuries related to backing vehicles in the waste and recycling industry. Fatalities caused by backing vehicles continue to be a leading cause of death for waste and recycling workers, accounting for nearly 30% of industry worker fatalities in 2015.
